World View: Case Study
Introduction
As of mid-2023 the UNHCR officially reports there are now 110 million forcibly displaced people worldwide as a result of persecution, conflict, human rights violations, or events seriously disturbing public order. Approximately 1 in every 74 people on earth.
Problem
In 2017 the UNHCR reported 65.6 million forcibly displaced people worldwide. That number has increased by nearly 40% in just 6 years. With growing numbers of global issues and conflict comes a growing need for aid and awareness.
Project Overview
The purpose of World View is to provide a platform for refugees and donors to seamlessly access information, and resources. In a time of unprecedented humanitarian need, the app gives supporters various options to support those who need it most.
Goals + Objectives
01 Raise Awareness of Global Issues
02 Resource Hub For Refugees
03 Support Hub For Supporters
04 Foster Compassionate World View In Users

The number of refugees worldwide increased from 27.1 million in 2021 to 35.3 million at the end of 2022, the largest yearly increase ever recorded, according to UNHCR’s statistics on forced displacement.

Research
Refugee /,refyoo’jē/

When an internally displaced person crosses an international border, they become a refugee. Today the UN estimates there are 35.3 million refugees as of 2023.
“My conclusion is we are one humanity. If anyone is being hurt, we are all being hurt. If anyone has joy, that’s our joy.” - Ai Weiwei, Activist, Artist, and Author of Humanity
User Personas
Created to understand the individual users of the app and their unique situations.
Graphic Direction
In the best interest of the World View Users, the app's graphic direction consists of a minimal yet clean colour palette of a desaturated green paired with a beige and was chosen to provide a cohesive and professional quality, as well as a low cognitive load.
Design + Development

The following images show logo development as well as the flowcharts for the donor/supporter user of the app. To make the donation + subscription process as seamless as possible, the app has been divided into three main initiatives for the supporter to contribute to; Donation Goals, The Awareness Fund, and + or the Allyship Program.
Preliminary Wireframes
Wireframing and thumbnails helped to guide the refinement process within my designs.
Solution + Key Take Aways
The final design solution provides an overview of a seamless donation process for the supporters and allies of the unprecedented global refugee crisis with which humanity finds itself in today. Utilizing a low-cognitive load for a smoother user experience, and a minimal colour palette with high-quality photography to achieve the aesthetic usability effect, the result is a user-friendly platform for all backgrounds and knowledge levels to become an ally in just a few taps.
A key takeaway from this project would be to not bite more than one can chew and to practice self-compassion. The concept was much larger than the project timeline permitted. However, to bring the idea to full fruition, the UNHCR would need to officially be partnered with the app to make connecting refugees to support more feasible.
